Now I know you’ve all been dying to learn how to make adobe bricks and then construct (hopefully) permanent structures out of them – yes ?

Right, well, I wasn’t so sure – so here’s a photographic tour of my training group making a greenhouse out of adobe. Adobe Bricks in La Laja, BoliviaAdobe is made of water and mud, y basta ! Adobe bricks are made by shaping wet mud into large, preferably flat bricks that are then dried and rotated for several days.

Then you need trusty volunteers to help you make your masterpiece ! The work starts !Amazingly enough each brick is held together by mud and then pounded down with whatever is handy (rocks or fists do well). Naya, Vicki, & SarahBut please be careful where you put the mud – “as clean as mud” . . . well it starts to take on a new meaning – you just never know what’s in there, Seth & Kevin find a cow skullKevin & Seth found a cow skull, and someone else found a scary lookin spiderSpider in the mudugh.  Phil carrying an Adobe brickWatch out though – each brick weighs about 15–18 pounds (maybe more, I’m guestemating). B42 at work Like any Kevin and Matt up high job it’s best to have LOTS of people to help ! But don’t forget all projects need a photographer !
